Keeping Watch Over the Gulf – Did it work?

Reports this morning are indicating that the “top kill” procedure BP did yesterday may have stopped the flow of oil into the Gulf.

But everyone is holding their breath. I just realized that I am holding my breath as I type this.

Reports this morning in the LA Times indicate that the hole is in fact plugged but they are waiting to make sure that it holds and that the pressure in the well does not overcome the mud and sand used to plug it.

The next step is cementing and sealing the well but officials have to make sure that the flow of oil has in fact completely stopped.

In addition, it appears that President Obama will be issuing a moratorium on deep water drilling sometime today. Seems like a wise move considering there are many questions about the existing technology for this process and if we can really prevent oil spills such as this one in 5,000 feet of water.

Don’t hold your breath but do stay tuned for updates on the “top kill” procedure and please continue to keep the Gulf coast in your prayers.
